Benefits of Map Integration
Apr 16, 2025
The ability to pull up a map of an area is not a feature unique to online courier software. You probably use some kind of map somewhere every day, like using it to figure out how to get from home to work and back. The advantages of Google Maps being integrated directly into online courier services then is not the fact that there is a map, it’s what you are able to do now that there is one!
Driver Tracking
Perhaps the most notable and crucial use of map integration into these digital courier systems is the ability to track where drivers are in real-time. When connected to the two-way app, drivers' locations will be continuously shared and synchronized with you and your team, so you always have eyes on them, and in effect, your deliveries. You also have the choice to view this in a number of different ways. If you want a general overview of where all your drivers are, you can pull up the driver map that has every driver and their exact location marked. This is great if you need to figure out which of your drivers can take a new order that just came in, for example. But if you want to follow a specific delivery in real-time, you can pull up a map for any order and see detailed directions and estimated time information. In either case, having the built-in map allows you to follow that information with ease, rather than trying to hunt down locations your drivers are on a different map application.
Zone Pricing
While driver tracking is how you’ll be spending most of your time with the integrated map in the online courier system, there are still a variety of other features that are only feasible with Google Maps built directly into the platform. One such feature is the ability to create pricing zones, not through specific street names or addresses, but directly on a map! If, for example, you want there to be a specific price charge for a delivery made in one city or one neighborhood, you can pull up a map and actually draw your zone! This way you don’t have to worry about looking up a long list of street names and hoping that your zone is actually what you want it to be, but instead can visually see it and map it out yourself. And with the ability to make an endless amount of these zone pricing maps, you can save a lot of time and a lot of stress with the help of this Google Maps integration!
Map Options
With any of the uses of the built-in map, you really have full control over it. You’re not stuck only watching one route, unable to move from that. You can scroll, zoom, and move through the map as if you weren’t using it through the system. There are also options to change from a more symbolic map look to the satellite view, as well as being able to go into street view at any location. There is also a toggle to show traffic flows directly on the map, and with all of this information, you are able to make the most informed decisions, every time. You can send your drivers updates on new routes you want them to take, or can decide which driver would best be able to take a new package. With all of these features built directly into the system, you don’t have to take any additional time swapping back and forth between a map and your deliveries - here you can have them all in one place!
